Bill Goodson is a world-renowned choreographer, dancer, and teacher with expertise in jazz, hip-hop, whacking, and Latin dance. His impressive career includes collaborations with iconic artists such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Paula Abdul, Stevie Wonder, and Gloria Estefan.
Toni Basil discovered Bill in a Los Angeles disco in 1976. He began his dance journey as a street dancer and shortly thereafter pursued training in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. He has worked for the Grammy Awards and choreographed numerous music videos for MTV, as well as films such as “Breakin’ 2/Electric Boogaloo” and “Jewel of the Nile.” His extensive career in Las Vegas involved dancing and choreographing for legendary hotel venues along the Strip.
Bill’s career also took him to Europe, where he contributed to a long list of TV shows and musicals in France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Germany. He has been the choreographer for the acclaimed Moulin Rouge in Paris since 1987, where his choreography is still performed today.
As a teacher and choreographer, Bill pioneered in the field, being one of the first to integrate street dance with jazz dance in the classroom. He has taught extensively around the world, with credits that include Scholarship Program Director at Dupree Dance Academy, The Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, Broadway Dance Center in New York and Japan, Studio Harmonic in Paris, Balettakademien in Stockholm, Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Pace University in New York, UCLA’s Men in Motion series, and the SPOTLIGHT Program at the Music Center in Los Angeles.
Bill’s contributions to dance have earned him several awards. One of his proudest achievements was his induction into “The Dance Oral History Project” for the Jerome Robbins Dance Division at the New York City Public Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. This prestigious recognition is a testament to his significant influence and contributions to the dance world.
